Overshadowed by the more promoted Red Cloak, Iron Buddha ( Tiě Luohan ) is actually as taste-worthy, if not more, than any of the so-called “famous” Wuyi oolongs. It is not proven that whether it is the oldest oolong cultivar in Wuyi as they say, but it is certainly one that is not the easiest to cultivate and to produce from. Finding a farmer to process it to the taste profile that befits its legend and our quality demand has been a challenge. It took us 15 years. Presenting Tea Hong’s Iron Buddha Supreme, with that complex charcoal finish yet sweet floral aroma, stout yet lingering “rock tea” taste, delivered gently in a well-balanced infusion in a civilised way. This could very well be the only traditional style Wuyi that any connoisseur would fall in love with.

A very limited batch produced in the mecca of xiao zhong gungfu black tea, Tongmuguan, this finely processed leaves of Meizhan is precious not because it is rare, but because it is so demanding to produce to this quality. It is not every year that we can achieve a gem like this.

Taiping Houkui Premium, green tea of shidaye cultivar
A beautiful tea
I heard about this only a few years ago. Before I bought it, I thought it maybe sth gimmick (just like those blossom tea; yeah, they may look beautiful in the water but taste nothing! Why waste money on sth tasteless?). However, this Taiping Houkui tastes much better than I expect. Though its depth is not as good as other green tea like longjing, it has its own character. And it is truly beautiful with its bright green colour! Lovely!

Eight Immortals Wudong, Phoenix dancong oolong
Eight Immortals is a signature bouquet style of the Fenghuang region. The processing of it is far simpler than any classic styles. However, it is exactly because of this simplicity that every element in tea production counts. And that is why making a superb quality is a lot more challenging than it sounds. Brief (few seconds) steeps in 90 Celsius water.
Liquor is of a clear pale yellow in tone.
Taste is smooth with a fruity sweet aftertaste. Surprisingly has a minty finish. No tartness nor bitterness.
Mouthfeel is slightly dry, encouraging salivation.
Wet leaves are dark greenish brown in colour and large in size, giving off a fruity burnt sugar aroma.

I write this review because I feel that is completly unfair that such fancy tea doesn’t has any comment here. It’s not easy to me to describe it but the feeling that I got from him is such as the title of this post. The lingering after taste that is described in the product description resembles a lot to the Honey Orchid one. This is a must try before die. Strongly recommended.
