To me a good teapot is always one that I can use well for achieving a desired infusion result, on top of great ergonomics and pleasing tactility. Some of these can be from named artists, but some can be from unknown ones.

As in other arts, there are lots of struggling artists in Yixing teapot making who would protect the future of their names and willing to work for a small commission for larger studios and the old national trade monopoly. That is why there are better than real counterfeits of famous names and great value teapots with generic artist seals. ( Of course there are even more lousy ones ).

Finding a good piece at value with such generic seal as “Yixing Zisha” etc has always been a sheer joy.

This piece with the seal “China Yixing” has an additional artist seal on the underside of the lid: Feng Ying. It is a common name in China for women, much like Mary or Jane. Yet seeing it is intriguing — the maker is still very proud of her workmanship and would put her name on it, albeit hiding under a lid.

The clay is good and should mature well on usage. The form is classic. Shui Ping is a most popular form style for the utilitarian-minded connoisseurs after all.
