The vastly destructive Cultural Revolution was about to end when Hu Xiao Xiang was born to a struggling family in Yixing. She grew up during the Economic Reform era, aspiring to be an artist. Somehow fate had her fallen in love with Yixing clay and she has been restlessly creating with it since the early 90’s. Hu’s works, whether those embellished or plain, are humbly elegant, beautifully precise, and always in well-processed clay. They are in permanent collections in museums and other institutions.

While her decorated pieces are widely pursued, we prefer her plainer ones for utilitarian purposes, such as this Shi Piao.

All Yixing teapots at Tea Hong are delivered with a pull-string towel sack in a collector box with cushions inside.
