Shen Jian Kang: Diamond

One of Shen’s most recognisable style is elaboration on well-defined classic traditional Yixing teapot forms with rich surface relief. To achieve the artistic vision for this Diamond the master artist took on the technical challenge of maintaining the continuation of irregular surface undulations from the pot belly to the lid. While at the same time, the lid has to sit perfectly into the recessed neck, as in the traditional form.

The resultant piece is an amazing gem of unparalleled beauty. Little kernels of duan-ni ( one kind of Yixing clay ) almost glitter on the silky, glistering surface of dark burgundy. Moisture management of the top notch zisha clay has to be timely, consistent and optimum from refinery through working to firing in order to give the luxurious and impeccable lustrous surface of this pure clay work. Once the pot gets into the palm of the hand, it is hard to let it go. The form, weight, tactility, and every little crease and curve are simply too addictive to part from. A desirable collectible as well as a unique tea tool.

All Yixing teapots at Tea Hong are delivered with a pull-string towel sack in a collector box with cushions inside.
