  • Celeste Green Gaiwan

This quickly became my favorite Gaiwan.

The design is wonderful and reminds us to connect with nature. It is easy to decant due to the perfect shape of the lid.

The only wish I would have is for a slightly smaller version of the same design, maybe around 100ml for smaller gongfu sessions.

  • Danhu Old Bush Song Cultivar, Phoenix dancong oolong

    令人上癮的茶。以為宋種已是最好,但喝過了這個以後,心裏只有它。

  • Classic White Utility Gaiwan 150

Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking

I keep my Classic White Utility Gaiwan at work and use it every day. Today, I thought I’d lost her. The lid slipped from my hands and fell to the tile floor. It clinked and clattered but didn’t shatter. In fact, there is not a ding, crack or chip on it anywhere. I’ve heard that porcelain is very strong and this is proof. I rinsed off the lid and went about brewing another cup. Today I mixed my last bit of Snow Orchid with a little bit of Shiguping Wulong to stretch it. Maybe the lid jumped out of my hands in protest for this sacrilege. Nonetheless, I’ve been enjoying many pleasant cups out of my sturdy and useful gaiwan.

  • Black Leaf Special, Phoenix dancong oolong

    Pleasant Tea

Dry leaf has chocolate, minty aroma. Flavor is smooth with hints of dried fruit as well as in the aroma. Not particularly sweet. A bit on the thin side as far as the body goes, but is pleasant with good huigan and a wet mouthfeel. A gaiwan proved beneficial in bringing out more of the fruit. An easy drinker.

  • Narcissus Classic, Wuyi yancha oolong

    Decidedly Underwhelming

Dark Roast, but not heavy. Mineral notes developing into a chalky finish leaving the mouth with a dryness. Good huigan, but lacking in smoothness, sweetness, thickness in body, and that chocolate flavor that good Shui Xian can exhibit. Somewhat disappointed in this one. I think Tea Hong can do better.

  • Hong Yu Deep White, deep oxidation Taiwan white tea

Brief (few seconds) steeps in 90 Celsius water.
Liquor is of a clear pale yellow in tone.
Taste is smooth with a fruity sweet aftertaste. Surprisingly has a minty finish. No tartness nor bitterness.
Mouthfeel is slightly dry, encouraging salivation.
Wet leaves are dark greenish brown in colour and large in size, giving off a fruity burnt sugar aroma.
    This tea withstands many steeps.
