US Tariff on Japan

Urgent thing first: US Tariff
|
If you are in the US, perhaps this is one thing quite high in your concern for your business. At the moment of this writing, there is an effective 10% import tariff on tea shipping from Japan until a said review that will happen in July. The worst case scenario would be to have it back at 24%, as previously imposed in March. The best case scenario would be having all tariffs lifted altogether, but it seems unlikely according to most commentators. It really is dependent on the outcome of the negotiation that Prime Minister Ishiba’s envoy will have with President Trump’s team, which date has not been announced yet.

My advice would be to have your tea shipped before July just in case things don’t quite work out as we want to and the tariff will be raised again. 10% is less painful than 24.
|
Another way to do it, if your order is small, is to have your order split into smaller shipping portions of less than USD 800 each — where the US Customs’ De Minimis practice posts no tax of. You may pay more shipping per kg, but depending on the price of tea in your order, you may still save a lot of money.

No less urgent, but far more vital: New Harvests
From Hangzhou to Fenghuang, Wenshan to Alishan, and even Kyushu to Uji, harvests are happening.

We are also finalising most items in our green tea line that are from China, and also the green style Tieguanyins.

However, not all harvests are smooth in many regions, good ones are not as easily obtainable as in normal years, as you may have guessed living through the unusual season transition this year. To maximise the quality you can get for your buying dollar, let us know your intake list now so we can count you in when stocking.

Surge in Demand
There has been a surge in demand of wholesale from us. Because of the very sudden change in the demand pattern, we still need time to manage proper inventory intake. Meanwhile, in order to stock enough for everyone, we need to know as much as possible how much of which tea that each of you need.
|
Since we are buying only directly from producers and not from those export companies that gang up tea batches for quantity rather than quality, we have to decide quite instantly when a good batch comes by, otherwise it will be gone. This is the same everywhere in the world. Be it Japan, Taiwan, China or Nepal.
|
Therefore, having in mind how much of each tea we need to supply you with is critical when we decide whether we are taking the whole lot in, or just a portion enough for our online retail shop.
