Fengxi Old Ginger
Although there are already twenty Fenghuang Dancongs (Phoenix Oolongs) in our offers, sometimes we do still get requests to include more varieties. One particular one has been mentioned a few times by different Fenghuang lovers — Jiangmu Xiang, a classic style Phoenix of a unique character. And you know how I am terribly picky. It has taken me quite a few years to find and decide on the farmer whose production is consistently good enough to include in our repertoire.

Fengxi, a mount adjacent to Wudong, is the origin of this particular cultivar, Jiangmu Xiang. The original 200+ year-old original cultivar is still productive, surrounded by generations of off-springs scattered in small farms in this area and beyond.

Master Wen’s farm, where one can look back to see Wudong, hosts eleven such trees that are over 50 years old. We stocked a very good batch from him two years ago, have it rebaked last year, and then let it rested till now for optimal enjoyment.

Steep it long enough in a regular teapot or employing the “gongfu style” to do quick brews to experience the unique qualities of this wonderful tea.
