Let’s deal with the elephant in the room first: will Trump’s tariff affect our US customers’ orders?
|
Orders below USD 800 from Japan to the USA are classified as De Minimis and are not subject to tariffs even after April 9th, when Trump’s new tariff rules are in effect. Since most online orders are below that amount, so there really is no worry about this new policy.
|
Empirically, we have found that orders sent through the Post have a much lesser chance for scrutiny at the Customs recently, so maybe opting for that service at check out would make life easier.
|
If, however, you want to get a higher ticket item, such as one of our Yixing teapots, DHL or FedEx* will work with us to process the needed tariff. If we haven’t yet update the item tax charge to make it happen at check out, we shall bill you separately to pay the US Customs so you don’t have to go through it yourself. The order will be delivered to you as normal, and you do not have to worry about it at all.

As for orders for other destinations, everything remains the same. No disturbances.

Lunch in a sushi chain restaurant
Today we had lunch in a very popular local sushi chain restaurant where they offer self help matcha. The quality of that greyish “green” powder gave us a most terrible tea experience. As we walked back to the office, I said to my wife, “Don’t expect me to ever go to that restaurant again”.

I know the market is infiltrated with mediocre products, but did not know it could be as bad as that. I have to let the world know that you do not have to break an arm and a leg to get a descent pack of matcha, for your chanoyu or your matcha latte, or your matcha custard. Or whatever plan you have for a good matcha. Vibrantly green, elegantly fine taste and genuinely made in a single origin in Japan. And certified organic.

I have originally intended this as one of the many teas for our next round of new product rollout, but after that lunch, I cannot wait.

Introducing Organic Matcha Unshin (i.e. 雲心 — Heart of the Clouds), a special grade from our producer in Mie, which we have been exporting to our wholesale clients in EU and the US. We have been working with them since 2020, four years before our relocation to Japan. They are so good that we also have from them another premium organic grade exclusively for our premium hotel clients in UK and Europe.

To make it more accessible, we have packed it in 150g kraft paper-aluminium laminate pack to minimise packing cost and wastage so that the selling price can be at the best value per gram for you as the enduser. Our food industrial standard kraft pack is superior to most foil packs and thin plastic bags in the tin for air and moisture tightness.

* DHL or FedEx — we are currently reviewing the service quality of these two carriers, so even though the shipping option at checkout is labelled as DHL (before we can relabel it), the actual courier can be either of them. It will not affect the shipping rate under the current agreements we have with them. That means you still enjoy the special preferential shipping rate for the efficient commercial courier service.
