A cup of houjicha latte and a scoop of houjicha powder

Matcha with a rich taste in 30g pack
& great value Houjicha Powder

New producers

Before we ever even decided to relocate to Japan, we have been aggressively reaching out to tea producers here in order to build a supply network as strong as those we have in China and Taiwan.

One of the recently solidified connections is a tea farmer family that runs their own grinding facility for matcha and houjicha in Nishio. Referred to as the matcha capital of Japan amongst tea professionals, this small region on Mikawa Bay connecting immediately to the Pacific Ocean yields a matcha which taste is deep, full, and pleasingly distinctive with a mesmerising “sea character”. I like it so much that after the first proper tasting, I immediately decided to include at least their supreme grade into our online collection.

The best part of their offering: they can pack it into 30g tin for a tiny additional cost. More impressively, they require a really low MOQ. (see note below)

If you think such offerings can be of use to you, please let us know.
The packed product comes in without label so you can easily apply your own. There is also a choice between two colours for the lid.

An impressive Houjicha powder at lower price than others

Another item from their repertoire that convince us no less is their houjicha powder.

Ever since the matcha crisis last year and the persistent insatiable demand for the green powder, all our key producers has raised the price significantly also for houjicha powder because of the opportunity cost in taking up the grinder. What this Nishio farm factory offers, however, is lower by 34% to 39% of comparable ones from the other regions we have been sourcing from. Like their matcha, this complex tasting Nishio houjicha powder carries its own unique signature which we immediately fell in love with, and decided to offer it as well in our online shop later this year.

Making direct connections with producers is often costly and not necessarily fruitful all the time. We feel blessed to have established such a great one after only a few trips of one hour drive from home.

Wishing you a Prosperous Lunar New Year of the Horse,
Leo Kwan
