The Struggle for Green tea

If you buy from reputable green tea origins in China or Taiwan you may have noticed that the weather has quite dramatically affected the harvest this year and the price has shot up dramatically. To us, however, it is the quality that matters the most.

The past couple of weeks have been a restless liaison with our producers for up-keeping with the quality that you have been relying on us for. Needless to say there have been relentless tasting and fine-tuning requests, amongst many other endeavours.

Now, even the latest harvest green tea Taiping Houkui is finalised. I am happy to report that not only have we been able to keep your prices overall, but we have also been able to push the quality of some to even better than last year. That really has not been an easy task in today’s environment.

A most notable one is our Longjing Spring Equinox. If you have also subscribed to our consumer newsletter you may remember that our old Longjing master did not survive the pandemic and we have been looking for a replacement. I have, by luck, reconnected with a master that I used to buy from until I broke away from my own old tea company in 2006. So in effect you will be enjoying a quality at a huge discount from the market wholesale price of that quality.

ps: We have failed to achieve an acceptable quality of Mo Gan Yellow Snails so we have not stocked any this year. The tea will not be available until hopefully next Spring. Sorry.
