Chaos at the US Borders
|
In recent days there has been various amount of delay for shipments to the US caused by sudden imposition of extra paperworks and procedures. The routine by FedEx for filing the needed paper has been counter-intuitive. Frequent miscommunication within their our structure has further made handling of shipment more tedious. In the past few days we had spent many hours to tackle what seems to us someone else mismanagement and the consequent redundant procedures.

Cancellation of the de minimus status means extra procedures that neither the US Customs nor FedEx is ready for

It is obvious to us that neither the US Customs nor FedEx, or perhaps most other commercial couriers too, are ready for the abrupt change. Cannot imagine how many parcels are being held at the US borders at this moment.

When the de minimus policy will be lifted on August 29 and they have the extra work to process tariffs on all incoming parcels, it is not difficult to conclude that getting a parcel delivered to an US address will be quite a nightmare. Not to mention the possibility of a long holdup at the port and a “rental” be charged by the courier because they fail to get it pass the border.

Suspension of shipments to the US
To avoid the likely agony that will cause to our loyal users and friends in the US, and to us as well, I have decided that we should wait this out. Give time to those people to get themselves organised.

Starting from August 21 10:00 p.m. (Japan time, GMT+9)
— that is tomorrow night, there will be no shipping option for addresses in the US. We shall resume shipping to the US again when we see signs of a workable routine is in place.

Wholesale orders
If you are a wholesale client and read this because you have subscribed to our customer newsletter, you will not be as affected as long as you have a tax number which we shall file when filling out the shipping form for you. The delivery term will be DDU as always anyway, although now there is the newly imposed 15% on anything coming from Japan. FedEx will collect the needed tariff as they have been doing for other destinations for wholesale orders. There is a couple more steps now for our paperwork, but hopefully the routine will evolved and become more sensible.

The only worry is the en masse traffic jam at the borders, so if you have not placed your order yet, you either do it asap or wait for a month or so.

Consumer orders
Similarly, if you want to place an online order as a customer that will be over 800, and that you have a tax number, and the possible delay does not trouble you, we shall be happy to process that for you. Simply write to us and tell us what you want.

If you are outside of USA, keep an eye on your government in case they do anything as dramatic and in such a sudden manner. For the sake of your hard-earned daily rights for a cup of true quality tea.

We are not collecting tariffs for the US government yet
Again, for our loyal customers and friends in the US, I am sorry for this sudden change of arrangement. Previously we said we would start collecting the required tariff, but after seeing that they are hardly ready yet, I have no confidence they can smoothly process the tax like the EU IOSS system can. The EU system had taken some time to evolve anyway.

Let’s hope things will be back to some kind of normality again soon, before the last 5g of your Tea Hong tea reserve is steeped.
