Hiroo Konishi: Kiln Change

A teapot made with a single material but a few surface finishes and colours

This is one of the signature designs by this multiple award winning artisan. Notice how the surface finish changes from matt to various grades of glossiness and even iridescent, most noticeably at the teapot bottom. This is all done with the artist’s own “kiln change” process where sudden change of temperature and firing environment causes the clay to set differently, and his pride is to let it all happen on the tiny surface of this little teapot.
