If this pot had been crafted in the traditional slab-built manner by this master, it would have to be a few times the price. His works have been in a steady rise in value after all. Chen Shun Pui, known in the Yixing teapot world also as Chen Xiao Pei, is one of the more sought after artists. Luckily there is the half mould method. This way the artist is able to create a larger number ( relatively ) of works for selling at a lower price to subsidise expense between sales of slab-built works. That’s how we are able to offer this famous craftsman’s product at such affordable price. However, if you ever search for it in Chinese online shops, you will see that those who offer similar quality would mark at much higher price, almost as if it were slab-built.
This Panhu is actually closer in form style to a classic Duo Zhi, but is nevertheless very controlled and precise in its lines and levels. Great pouring manner. Exceptional zisha clay.
