Stone ladle style chachū with reduction firing finish and seaweed pattern
Although Master Fujita was born in Fukuoka, he has made Tokoname his home early on in his career and his classic pieces demonstrate a unique Tokoname firing technique: 藻掛け — mogake — where seaweeds are tied to the bisque before entering the kiln, creating a unique pattern after firing. His choice of various local clays is diversified and all demonstrate good visual and infusion effects. This particular piece is quite rare in his portfolio in combining the traditional mogake technique with a double reduction firing that gives the teapot a unique glittering effect. This is a great way to enhance the visual appearance while retaining the porosity of the clay material for improving taste in tea infusion.
This is a handmade item. Each individual piece delivered may have slight variations in colour, pattern, shape and details from the particular one used in these pictures.
