Reduction fired stoneware chachū
Besides his highly skilled use of the mogake (ak hanged seaweed) firing technique in ceramic, another major line of Master Fujita’s blackware works is his mastery in reduction firing on the dark clay to produce a glittery and partial glossy effect on the unglazed teapot. They call this jikishime (締焼き), or popularly as yakishime (焼締め) in Japan. This magical surface finish not only accentuates the perfect round shape he is able to give to the hand-thrown clay work, but also helps to subtly draw the the brewer’s attention to the teapot and thus the process of brewing itself. This is a great value piece from the renowned artist. There is a smaller and simpler version in this series of his work, without the double brim: Dark Pearl.
This is a handmade item. Each individual piece delivered may have slight variations in colour, pattern, shape and details from the particular one used in these pictures. Please note also that because of the unique and tiny surface crystalisation of this item, the colours rendered in the photos under the photo lights maybe slightly different when under a different lighting environment.
