Kakewake, a mastery in partial glazing
Creating a visually pleasing and unique surface for a teapot while maintaining the stoneware’s porosity for infusion enhancement has always been a challenge to pot artists. Here Sawada sensei, a highly recognised artisan native to Tokoname, elevates the partial and multiple layering of a wood ash glaze coupled with a masterfully controlled reduction firing to offer us this beautiful piece. See also his other piece — the Plain Teapot, for an enjoyable comparison between two different firing techniques by the ceramic master.
This is a handmade item. Each individual piece delivered may have slight variations in colour, pattern, shape and details from the particular one used in these pictures.
