  • Danhu Old Bush Song Cultivar, Phoenix dancong oolong

    This is metaphysical-grade dan cong.

What an exquisite and remarkable experience; every aspect of this tea, from the aroma of the dry leaf to the last sensations felt on the palate in the aftertaste, are completely and entirely without flaw. The execution of every single step in the making of this dan cong exemplifies sheer mastery of a craft that is hundreds, if not thousands, of years in the making.

This tea is utterly perfect, it could not get any better. I would have an easier time explaining what is at the end of two mirrors placed opposite each other, than I would be describing just how flawless this dan cong is. Even the best of poets would struggle to capture the ineffable beauty of this tea… there are simply no words that could be strung together that would effectively capture the experience that awaits the drinker.

Not only is this the best Huangzhi Xiang I’ve ever had, it’s also the best dan cong I’ve ever had. It may seem expensive, but for what it is, it’s actually underpriced, and I just want to thank Tea Hong for making such an experience like this possible.

The cong wei is very direct and apparent, the cha qi is transcendental, and the flavor profile is deeper than the Marianna Trench. If you are looking for a metaphysical-grade experience, you will find it here.

  • Red Cloak Grande, Wuyi yancha oolong

Re: Wasn’t impressed with 2012 version

Hello Barack, Thank you for your comments. All comments are useful for us to learn how we should direct our products. I am sorry you do not like the tea. Different people look for different things in different teas. We do try to maximize the quality for what most people look for in each of the varieties. We have also tried to create new varieties — such as the Sacred Lily that you have enjoyed — so people may understand a tea without too much influence of preconceived ideas. By the way, more matured and deeper baked teas are more restrained in their twisted form. They do not open as much as lighter baked and fresher teas. One way to enjoy a genuine Red Cloak of this traditional finish is to double blanch it, and let steep longer. Repeat infusions to taste the play of the tea. I hope you’ll like it better this way.

  • White Peony Classic Floral

White Peony Flips the Dial on Mass Marketing

A classic American TV commercial depicts three brothers at the breakfast table, pushing around a bowl to avoid eating the “healthy” cereal inside it. Finally, the youngest child takes a bite, then another. “He likes it! Hey Mikey!” his brothers exclaim.

A similar miracle happened when my ten-year-old son tried White Peony Classic Floral, a beverage that actually is good for him. This is a kid who would brush his teeth with root beer if I allowed it. Enter White Peony. OMG, he likes it! He says it’s sweet, though unbeknownst to him, it is pure with nothing added. Score another one for tea and deal another blow to the junk drink industry.

  • Honey Orchid Supreme, classic Phoenix dancong oolong

    Exquisitely Delicate! Delicately Exquisite!
This is a great tea and I just have to re-order. Having gained experience from brewing gongfu style and enjoying various teas from Tea Hong, my wife and I appreciate the bright notes and subtle nuances of this truly delightfully tea. We brewed gongfu style in a ruyao teapot to retain all the flavours.

  • Honey Orchid, Phoenix dancong oolong

Now I understand a bit about tea maturity

I have heard about it but this is the first tea that has made me experience the interesting thing about tea maturity. I bought the first pack in 2012 because I had read about Leo’s name in a tea merchant’s catalogue here in Switzerland. It was great taste and good value, but when I opened a second pack that I bought last month, the aroma of the leaves instantly tell me it had already become something else. The sweetness was less obvious but much deeper with a prominent ‘woodsy’ tone. The infusion much deeper and mellow and the taste longer. There is something dancing on the taste buds that I don’t think I can write even in German. Maybe it is music in tea taste.

I am just so disappointed that it is sold out now. I hope the new stock will mature to the same wonders!
